The 100 Meter Split

   I created this piece to illustrate the extreme distances our food travels to arrive at our stores.
Here in Canada, the closest banana plantation is 5000km away in Honduras.

I drew a continuous line measuring roughly 100 meters in the shape of a banana on a
24" x 36" piece of paper. It would take 50,000 of these bananas to make up the distance
from Honduras to Canada.

Del Monte, the worlds third largest banana distributor, ships roughly 50,000 bananas to
Canada per hour.
